Slideshow - How to make

If you have some pictures that you would like to show to your visitors, and don’t want them to have to scroll down the page to view them, then you can use a Slideshow feature. A Slideshow takes your pictures and displays them one after another without moving the screen. The visitor can just sit there and watch the (still) pictures cycle through.

In this article you'll find:

Here is how you create a slide show:

1. On your computer decide what pictures you want to put in the Slideshow. Then make a copy of each one naming them “ss101.jpg”, “ss102.jpg”, “ss103.jpg”, etc. You can have up to 16 pictures (ss116.jpg). The pictures will be displayed in this order (smallest number to largest number). If you want to see them on your computer, in order, you can view them using thumbnails. (If you don't know how to do this, ask your Implementation Manager.) When you have all your pictures with the correct file names:

2. Log in to the Website Builder System and upload these pictures to your website.

3. Create a page (or go to the page) where you want to put the Slideshow. In the text box, type any words that describe what the visitors will be seeing in the slide show. Following this text:

4. Copy the statement below and paste it into the text box (where you want to slideshow to appear).

slideshow display_time='2' file='ss101.jpg' file='ss102.jpg' file='ss103.jpg' file='ss104.jpg' file='ss105.jpg' file='ss106.jpg' file='ss107.jpg' file='ss108.jpg' file='ss109.jpg' file='ss110.jpg' file='ss111.jpg' file='ss112.jpg' file='ss113.jpg' file='ss114.jpg' file='ss115.jpg' file='ss116.jpg'

IMPORTANT: Add a lefthand square bracket [ at the beginning of this line of text and a righthand square bracket ] at the end. (They can't be typed into this sample line, or it will make a working slideshow like the one below!)

5. Scroll to the bottom of the editing screen and click "Save".

The slideshow will appear on the page like this:

You can change the time that each picture is displayed. The current setting is 2 seconds, which is specified at the beginning of the command line you just typed (display_time='2'). If you want the pictures to be displayed for 3 seconds each, change the 2 to a 3. If you want the each picture to be displayed for 4 seconds, change the number to a 4. Don't forget to scroll to the bottom of the screen and click "SAVE".

If you need any other changes to the Slideshow, contact your Implementation Manager.

Troubleshooting:

My Slideshow does not play; what is wrong?

  1. If you do not have any other media files uploaded to your website besides the slideshow pictures, the slideshow will not work. To solve this, just upload an arbitrary audio or video file. This will enable your website to play the slideshow.
  2. You can only have one slideshow on one page. If you have more, they will not play.
