PDF and Security

Some of our clients uploaded PDFs, but forget to erase their name from the "Properties" of the file.

If I publish a sensitive document, but it says your name as the document author, you not be very happy!

When we saw people doing this by accident, we asked the Development team to remove the metadata from the properties of all PDFs.

However, if you want the meta data to stay, you can do this.

You can add new PDFs

1. Upload a PDF.

2. Click add to media library

3. Add a title in each language

4. At the bottom of the page select Offer this product only in the formats I choose:

5. Click "PDF pages (preserve metadata; insecure!)"

6. Unclick "PDF pages"

7. Save

You can fix PDFs that you have already uploaded:

1. Go to Upload and Name files

2. At the bottom of the page, click the title of a PDF in the left column of your media library.

3. At the top of the page, Select "Text" in the "this file contains" menu;

4. At the bottom of the page select Offer this product only in the formats I choose:

5. Click "PDF pages (preserve metadata; insecure!)"

6. Unclick "PDF pages"

7. Save

The reason the new format is marked "insecure!" is that we aren't erasing the metadata and someone might forget to erase their name as the author.
